Kichi Chikura

The house
The renovation has only just finished: a modern kitchen, new bathroom fittings, and clean, simple rooms with nothing worn out and nothing to work around. At about 40 m², it is a compact house that lives larger than the number suggests.
That is the quiet logic of a 2DK: two rooms plus a dining-kitchen. Sleep in one room, live and work in the other, and let the kitchen table hold the middle of the day. For one or two people, it is all the house you need.
It suits a particular rhythm especially well. Check the water at first light, surf while the town is still waking up, and be back at your desk by mid-morning. Japanese afternoons line up with European mornings, and evenings with the American workday. A month here makes remote work feel less like a compromise and more like the point.

The neighbourhood
Chikura sits at the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula, facing the open Pacific. It is a working town, not a resort: fishing harbours, flower fields, local supermarkets, and long stretches of beach where you will often have the water to yourself. The break the town is known for is a few minutes' walk from the front door.
The pleasures here are small and repeatable. A morning walk along the sea wall, fish from the harbour, the same coastline looking different every day. Tokyo is about ninety minutes away: close enough for a day trip when you want the city, far enough that it never follows you home.
The best of it runs May to October, when the surf and the coast are at their finest. Boso winters are mild, though, and the town works year-round for anyone who would rather have the beaches empty.
Good to know
- 30 days minimum. Every stay is a fixed-term residential lease of at least 30 days. A lease, not a hotel, minpaku or short-stay booking.
- A real lease. The house is partner-owned, so your lease is prepared and executed by a licensed Japanese real-estate agent, including the statutory explanation required by law, with plain-English support.
- One payment. One secure prepayment by Wise before move-in, in your own currency at the mid-market rate. For stays beyond about three months, we agree a payment schedule with you directly.
- No hotel services. No daily housekeeping, no front desk. Optional paid cleaning and linen changes can be arranged.
- Three weeks' notice. The house is set up fresh for each lease, so we ask for at least three weeks between booking and move-in.
- Leaving early. Always your right, but the lease cannot be shortened below 30 days, before or after signing, and rent is not refunded in a way that would turn your stay into a sub-30-day booking.
The 30-day minimum is a booking condition on this house, not small print. Bookings cannot be made, shortened or partially cancelled to create a stay of fewer than 30 days. That is what keeps your stay a genuine residential tenancy at a resident's price. Read the terms of stay.
